Place one of the wood panels on a flat surface. Place each 3 feet long by 6 wide by 1 inch strips of wood 2 inches thick at the 3 feet long edges of the panel with wood screws. Place a screw every 3 inches or less. Drill pilot holes whenever needed to insert a screw. This added step will make your job easier.
Make modern coffee tables, place each of the strips of wood 2 inches thick to the edges of 18-inch panel 18-inch long-by-6 wide by 1-inch. Remember to drill pilot holes first. Measure 8 inches from each end of the 3 feet long edge of the remaining wood panel and make a mark. Place a hinge on the markings and include them in the panel with wood screws. Place the wood panel on the top of the wooden moldings, the hinge on the down side, to create a box structure. Open the top panel and attach the hinges to the wood trim.
Apply a bead of wood glue along an edge of the top wood panel. Place the corresponding decorative wood trim against the tail and then fix it with four equal finishing nails. Attach the decorative frames all the way around the hardwood panel. Turn the frame so the front cover is at the bottom. Attach the decorative modern coffee tables legs to each corner of the wooden panel with wood screws. Insert the screws at a 45-degree angle from the outside of the leg into the hardwood panel. Two screws on each leg will suffice, but four can be used for safety.
